Underhanded

Its an alright game. Good art, confusing but can be fun. What angers me is the underhanded way they gave us an expansion for free and then tricked the players into downloading a patch that locks the expansion down and forces the purchaser of the game to pay to reoprn rhe formerly free expansion. Cheap. Underhanded. Not worth the money.

Why are you making me pay again??

I bought the expansion and I thought it was good... But when a new patch came out, it locked my expansion again and theyre asking me to pay again?? Please fix :( Thanks...

Gg

This is a good game likeing it more and more wish Arham or witch of Salem would come out

Excellent

I have never been disappointed with a Fantasy Flight game, and this is no exception. The art, the game play, the feel, is all exceptional, even though I havent played the board game. Oh, and to people who have paid for the call of Cthulhu expansion, just "buy" it again, and youll receive a small message saying you have already purchased it, and it asks if you want to download it again, for free. Just because some of thier games encourage foul play, doesnt mean theyre willing to sink that low.

Love it!

Amazing game! Cant stop playing! Please make an iPad version! Oh and a Game of Thrones LCG iOS game would be awesome too!!

Great atmosphere

Its well made and nicely paced. Sometimes frustrating, but so nicely done I keep coming back.

Great port of a bad game

Ugh. The mechanics are too divorced from the narrative. The whole game doesnt seem to have much strategy, and the game doesnt use its setting very well. Avoid.

Total biscuit brought me here

Was watching the tgs podcast and they were talking about this game, and being a huge fan of the HP lovecraft world I didnt hesitate to jump right in! Glad I did its loads of fun.

Lame

I love FFG, but they do not know how to market their apps. This game is way too expensive. Its not much fun (as a solo game). The iap are absurd. The fact that they didnt make this a universal app feels like they are just money grubbers.

Great Game, lots of Replay Value

Out of all of the game apps that I have, Ive played this one the most. Great strategy, graphics, sound & replay value. I hope that FF Games continues to bring out expansions. While I have not played their board game Arkham Horror, I know it has many expansions that could be used to create a half dozen or more expansions for this game. Looking forward to more goodness! Bug report: Designers - when a Green locked symbol attach to a monster (a Haunting Horror) appears in a sequenced adventure (in this case the fourth in the sequence, but could be fifth or more) it creates an impossible win (in this case 7 symbols were needed to beat the adventure, but with only 5 green symbols available to the characters, not one of the characters could beat it, even with upgrades). Therefore, an hour was wasted to arrive at a point that could not be overcome. Please ensure that Green locked symbols are not brought into sequenced adventures by monsters. Twice this has occurred in the new Alaskan campaign & both games were ruined. Cheers!

Fun game

I havent played the board game but this is a pretty terrific game on its own. I hope FFG looks at what else they can bring to iOS.

Crushingly, brutally hard

Great production value, great graphics, sound & concept for any lover of Lovecrafts work. But this game is brutally unfair. Ive sank hours into it and only ever beaten it ONCE. (With a normal difficulty elder thing.) I have no idea why anyone would purchase the optional harder difficulty creatures like Cthulhu. If you enjoy losing, and having only a 1 in 1000,000 chance at winning a game, download this. I must be a masochist, because I keep redownloading it, and getting so frustrated I promptly delete it again. My desire for good Lovecraft-based games can not over-ride how insanely hard this is. Maybe thats the point. The creators serve the Elder ones and seek to drive us mad by having us play this.

Exhilarating strategy game!

After a few plays, this is undeniably the best strategy game that Ive ever played. Ive never played Elder Signs the boardgame, so I wont be able to compare this ios app with its tabletop counterpart. ES:O is a complex game in which you assemble a team of specialized investigators (choose 4 out of 16) to find elder signs before an Ancient One (choose 1 out of 4) awakens. Elder signs may be rewarded by successfully completing adventures and adventures are completed by rolling and matching dice to the adventures specific completion criteria. The roll and discard mechanic is very interesting! Tough adventures offer better rewards and may require equipping your investigators with the tools to complete them. This game requires a lot of luck, but you can influence the outcome through leveraging the strengths of your investigators and deciding which quests to do first. I always felt that the decisions I made mattered and it is definitely gratifying to take chances and see them pay off. I wish there were more games like this.

Must buy

Love the game. Very difficult. Easy controls. Great music and sound. Would love to see online multiplayer added

fun, clunky dice game with interface problems

If you are looking for a spooky Lovecratfian horror game, this isnt it. But it is a fun dice game with a decent Lovecraft theme, if you can get past the flawed interface. The interface is not only clunky, but inconsistent - you can tap on your items to see what they do on one screen, but another. Same deal for the flavor text on the challenges. The game will even let you waste time futiley trying to succeed at a challenge even when you clearly dont have enough dice left to fill its requirements (theres an option to give up if you tap on the name of the challenge). When you use an item to re-roll some of your dice, the box where you select which dice to re-roll covers up the cards that tell you what symbols youre trying to roll in the first place! Why doesnt the game just prompt us to tap on the dice which we want to re-roll? There is some strategy with which investigators to pick (I like to use the people who are immune to a certain obstacle against it - i.e. using the nun to get rid of locked dice, the scientist for challenges that would normally spawn a monster, etc.) and which resources to use, but luck is a HUGE factor here. Its easy to start off with very difficult challenges, or to end up in a death spiral where you dont have the items or health you need to have any decent chance to win. At least its easier to "flip the board" and start over here than with the physical version!

Great game

A lot of fun

Cthulhu Fthagn!

Great game for both Lovecraft fans Fantasy Flight games fans. The art is top-notch and the music creates the mood fitting the horror and mystery. Id gladly give it 5 stars if not for some final touches the game needs: - Game Center integration. - Achievement system. - A bit more "fluff". About the last point: The game is essentially a puzzle, with RPG element serving only to introduce more variety into the puzzle solving side of the game. Puzzles are engaging and mildly challenging, but as the game progresses, inevitably the backstory and the mood introduced by the animation at the beginning fade away. I think some short descriptions of the events (at midnight for example, when monsters manifest themselves or when new locations open) would help players re-immerse themselves into the moody atmosphere of the old museum, after completing the puzzle-adventures. Some background information on the characters would be a nice touch too. Im eagerly waiting for new adventures and/or expansion modules to the game.

At last a battle with the Elder Gods

Captures the mood of Lovecraft milieu perfectly. An excellent lighter version of the Arkham Horror boardgame without millions of punched card pieces to juggle. A treat for tentacled beastie fans.

Seemingly complicated but actually simple

The rules are actually quite easy to understand. Although I dont have enough knowledge in the Cthulhu Mythos, the art and sound style helps to immerse yourself in the universe. Well made app to kill some time.

Desperate fun!

Fantasy Flight makes awesome games! This is no exception. Theyve managed to capture the feeling of intense desperation felt by Lovecrafts characters as they encounter the unfathomable. Its not easy to win against the horrors from beyond so dont get your hopes up. But maybe, just maybe, you might be able to survive one more day.
